The Polynesian Cook Islands invite tourists to a chain of 15 islands that form the French Polynesian and Samoan archipelagos. The Cook Islands welcome anyone who wishes to enjoy a vacation complete with palm tree-dotted beaches, crystal clear lagoons, volcanic mountain trails and of course the natural flora and fauna of a tropical island chain. Cook Islands holidays offer you some of the most exciting natural sights and exhilarating adventure and activities, one can expect on an island vacation. The main attractions of the Cook Islands exist within the bounds of Rarotonga and Aitutaki. Once tourists land in Avarua, the capital of Rarotonga, the real journey begins. The coastal city has a country-charm to it thanks to the agrarian population and geography. Tourists can look forward to attractions such as:
Fishing in Aitutaki Lagoon The Aitutaki Lagoon is hands down the main attraction of the namesake island. Aitutaki Lagoon’s outskirts are dotted with small islands that can be visited on boat cruises. The lagoon waters are open to tourists for kayaking, which is a sought-after activity in these parts. If you are lucky, you can catch the residents indulging in some bone-fishing, and join them for it as well! The so-called Honeymoon Island of Aitutaki is also known to offer snorkelling along the lagoon. You can unwind later by signing up for spa therapy. Snorkelling in Tapuaetai Island Tapuetai Island is another island that comes within the Aitutaki collective. The island is also affectionately called the ‘One Foot Island’, because of its adorable, small size. However, this speck of land in the turquoise waters can offer you some of the best sunset viewpoints. The beaches make for peaceful walks across the white sand, with Hermit crabs running about occasionally. Tourists can also look forward to snorkelling sessions here as well. Island Hiking in Rua Manga, Rarotonga Once you move to Rarotonga from Aitutaki Island, you are welcomed by more dense greenery than sand. Wigmore’s Waterfall is the next attraction here. You will be hard pressed not to take a dip in the crystal clear pool at the base of the waterfall. The rocky coastal plain offers some fantastic natural sights to behold, such as the ‘Te Rua Manga’, or ‘The Needle’, the pinnacle rock. The base of the needle offers some exceptional views of the clear waters of the ocean beyond. An hour spent here in silent contemplation makes your Cook Islands holidays worthwhile. Marine Reserve visitation in Aroa The Aroa Marine Reserve is situated on the western coast of Rarotonga. The marine reserve is forme over the clear waters that surround the island. In the shallow parts, you can shoals of indigenous marine life in their natural habitat. You can indulge in some snorkelling and kayaking here as well. The coastline also has some excellent dining options that offer you a direct view of the Sun sinking beyond the horizon at dusk.
